About me

I am a licensed Acupuncturist who is passionate about helping people with the safe, gentle and effective techniques of Chinese Medicine. To this end, I continue to study, delving into several different facets of the medicine, including both orthopedic and traditional acupuncture styles, and classical herbal medicine. I am currently pursuing a PhD program in Nanjing University, and is a faculty member at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences.

While obtaining his Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Phil had several formative encounters with medicine. Upon completing his studies, he decided to radically change course and study medicine himself.

I have read about different medical systems and traditions, and was greatly impressed by the philosophy that underlies Chinese Medicine. I have recognized nuance in the Chinese Medical view of health and disease that seemed lacking in other systems. I  obtained a Master's Degree in TCM from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland, California.

I have trained with several of the top Chinese Medical physicians in the US and China, obtaining certificates in:

Advanced Herbal Studies from the Institute of Canonical East Asian Medicine with Dr. Arnaud Versluys (250 hours, 2011)

Advanced Herbal Studies with Dr. Feng Shi Lun of the Hu Xi Shu Institute, Beijing, China (80 hours, 2014)

Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program with Whitfield Reaves (75 hours, 2015)

Currently pursuing a PhD in Classical Chinese Herbal Medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Huang Huang at Nanjing University, China

Currently pursuing a Clinical Doctorate of Chinese Medicine at ACCHS, in Oakland, CA.

I have worked in both Community Acupuncture and private clinic settings. In addition, I  teach herbal medicine and Chinese medical theory at the Master's level, and is running the  Doctorate program at the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences.

Many people suffer with symptoms that are difficult to classify in any "category- of disease.

Something's not working correctly, but there's no name for what's wrong. In situations like these, there's still a lot of potential for Chinese Medicine to help manage and treat the condition. Regardless how strange symptoms are, they're still occurring within the context of the human body, and that is our specialty.

Many people suffer no major symptoms, and have developed good habits and rituals to actively cultivate health.

Preventative medicine has always been emphasized as the highest form of medicine in Chinese history. It is preferable to treat the subtle signs of imbalance than wait for "real disease- to appear. We'd be delighted to be a part of your proactive health regimen.
