Hi, all! I am McKenzie Mescon, known as "Mackie- or "Dr. Mack- to my family and friends, including those here at Spring. I came to Spring as the first resident ND, in part because Montana has called me for many years, but mostly because Dr. Bonville and the other practitioners simply made Spring feel right. I knew I could learn and be myself here. I was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts; a Boston girl who loved sports, playing outside, and reading fantasy stories. My mother, father and brother have each influenced me in their own way. My mother is a certified functional medicine doctor, and a constant source of wisdom and medical conversation. Because of her, you could say I was raised to eat like a Naturopath, before I even knew such a thing existed! My father and brother are the examples of "people-person-, and it is knowing their character that reminds me to look for the good in every person I meet. In the years before medical school, I earned a B.S. in Biology and Non-Fiction Writing in a college experience that helped me find my voice, my confidence, and my partner in this life, Hanzi. After college, he and I moved to the West and I learned about the vastness of America, with its variety of people and terrain. Naturopathic medicine found me during the course of these adventures, first in an undergrad course, later when I lived in Seattle, and yet again when I lived in Northern California. After shadowing a naturopath in California, I left my life in the mountains as a ski and yoga bum to pursue the a naturopathic education. I loved naturopathic medical school, took the fast-track program at NUHS in Chicagoland, and buckled down to work. After 3 years and 4 months, I graduated summa cum laude and salutatorian of my class, thanks in no small part to many supportive people in my life. Throughout medical school I kept the intention that I would head back to America's Mountain West, and I am both awed and excited to watch that intention unfold. I am now an ND in Montana, joyfully making home in the mountains, on the rivers, and in this beautiful town of Bozeman. As a doctor, I am passionate about delivering patient-centered, naturally-focused primary care to my community. My goal is to make naturopathic medicine accessible, understandable, and doable. I particularly love to work by healing with plants, by attending to the physical body, and by making treatment plans that consider my patients' life experiences. When I am not doctoring, I can be found outside, hiking, fishing, skiing, climbing, skating, or hot-spring-ing. I like to create by baking, doing yoga, scouring the thrift store, and fixing things. I love a good conversation, a good pair of leather boots, and getting out of range of cell phone service. My favorite thing though, by far, is to help people puzzle through life and health. I do this by being present, and by applying the wisdom of naturopathic philosophy; this is what I love to bring to the world.
