About me

I was inspired to become a licensed acupuncturist after acupuncture made a real difference in my own life. I have been in your shoes-curious if acupuncture could help me. It can be intimidating to try something new! Whatever your feelings about acupuncture, I will listen to you, answer your questions, and offer a carefully tailored treatment plan. Throughout high school and college, I struggled with gynecological and digestive issues that caused me a great deal of stress. Despite these difficulties, unless something major flared up, I grew accustomed to living with my symptoms. Then during college, I began experiencing a great deal of back pain. Nothing seemed to bring me relief. Someone recommended that I try acupuncture. While I was skeptical at first, I decided to give it a try. I was so impressed by how the acupuncturist I visited really explored my past to figure out the root cause of my pain. Although I had sought treatment for my back, my acupuncturist discovered that an old ankle injury was actually the underlying cause. She also recognized my digestive issues right away and helped me manage those as well. It was such a powerful experience to have someone really take the time to treat not only my symptoms, but also the root cause of my issues. From that point, I was hooked. Since then, I have found great personal success with acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, and other complementary therapies. Diet changes and supplements have helped to regulate my digestion and address my gynecological concerns. Well-placed needles have kept my ankle pain, back pain, and stress at bay. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in biology, I worked in the pharmaceuticals industry before training as an acupuncturist. I completed a rigorous training program in Chinese Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine and earned a Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAOM) degree from the New England School of Acupuncture. I also earned a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine (Dipl. OM.) from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Both as an undergraduate and graduate student, I took courses on nutrition. These studies helped me to develop a strong understanding of how food impacts our bodies. My specialties as a practitioner include pain management, women's health, and digestive health. Everyone's story is different, but I am grateful that because of my own journey I can relate to the struggles of so many of my patients. I look forward to sharing how acupuncture and complementary therapies at Silver Leaf Acupuncture can help you reach your health and wellness goals. -Margo Voskanian, MAOM, Lic. Ac. Dipl.Om.
